The Letter – Kathryn Hughes

the letter

The Letter. Kathryn Hughes.

Who would have thought a letter could link so many people in so many ways.

Kathryn Hughes allows the reader to understand the lives of two very different women from two very different places in time, yet combines them together to create a beautiful story.

The story follows Tina, and abused wife from the 1970’s and Chrissie, a doctors daughter from 1939.

Kathryn allows the story to unfold with great ease for the reader. The descriptions of the relationship between Tina and her husband drew me into the book desperate to find out how she would escape. The character of Chrissie is very well written. The emotions of each character were very much brought to life with the story line without too much description. The continuous way of which the reader was told how the letter pieced together each character was very clever and not predictable. The emotions of the characters were brought to life, making the reader want to know what happens next.

Sometimes the ending of books similar to The Letter do not end completely, with every “shoe tied”, however Kathryn has done a great job ensuring the reader had each character concluded.

A great, quick easy read. I would recommend it to those who would like to read a book that isn’t complicated to understand the storyline, and not bogged down in too much description despite the nature of the emotions the storyline required. Once I started this book I didn’t want to put it down.

Many thanks to Troubador Publishing Ltd to allow me to review this book.
